Urban City Coffee Roasters uses high tech fluid bed roasters. A fluid bed roaster produces coffee characterized by a clean, smooth taste. The fluid bed machine creates clean coffees by forcing high velocity air through a bed of beans, levitating them in a regular pattern within the roasting chamber.
Since the walls of the chamber are not heated, the beans will not scorch, and the machine pulls the smoke and other roasting by-products out the top as fresh air enters the bottom. This procedure eliminates the coating of coffee beans with oils that produce bitter and acidic tastes, which is a common result when using a higher temperature drum roaster.
